Web 2.0 > Yahoo! mail API is great, but not very useful
March 29, 2007

I've seen that Yahoo! opened the APIs for Yahoo! Mail. And I said:

Great! One can now build an offline version of Yahoo! Mail.

Well... not exactly. The APIs give you access to almost anything BUT reading a specific e-mail. So you can get the list of e-mails, list of folders, etc, but then, if you want to view the contents of an e-mail, you are redirected to Yahoo!'s website.

So my dream of having an Yahoo! Mail that is both online and offline has vanished. Unless I pay for the premium account to get POP3 or access to the full API.

Web 2.0 > One of the many reasons why desktop applications are sometimes helpful
March 28, 2007

One of the many reasons why desktop applications are sometimes helpful, or what happens when the service provider's website goes down:

mail.google.com says: "We have identified the root of this problem and are still working as
hard as we can to find a solution. We want to make sure you know that
we haven't forgotten you, and we sincerely apologize for the ongoing
inconvenience."

Web 2.0 > myFeedz went public!
August 15, 2006

Finally!

After about 10 months since we had the myFeedz idea, the service went public.

Here are some details about myFeedz:

myFeedz is like a personalized newspaper. It gives you the latest news, filtered by your interests. Still, it is NOT an online RSS reader.

It finds what's important from all the information out there and shows you what you need to read.

It learns from what you like and keeps up with your interests.

Don't forget to read the blog post describing what's new.

There are still some limitations, as we're still in beta:

  • You cannot yet see any news if you're not logged-in
  • We are not allowing too many users to create accounts, as we have to tweak the application to handle as many connections as possible

Web 2.0 > For every click I made, my browser was sending 2 requests to Google
May 05, 2006

Like many others, I use Firefox for browsing the web.

Like many others, I have Google toolbar installed for Firefox.

Like many others, I am interested in PageRank, so I activated it while installing the toolbar.

What I did not know, is that the toolbar is sending 2 HTTP requests to Google's website for EACH click I make... One for the PageRank and another one for their Anti-Phishing thing.

Now that I think about it, the 2 extra-requests make sense. It's just that I did not know.

Web 2.0 > Ajax Libraries: Which extends which
April 04, 2006

I was having a lot of trouble remembering all the Ajax libraries out there, and the inter-dependencies, so I decided to create this small website to kind-of structure them.

So feel free to suggest new libraries and add comments.
