Technote Details :: Using MX Breadcrumbs and MX Includes

Issue

When applying MX Breadcrumbs on a page that will be used through server-side includes, I cannot check the Apply directory recordset option and enter the correct page (the one that will include the directory) in the user interface. If I enter the page I'm working on, the checkbox gets enabled.

Reason

This is the normal behavior of MX Breadcrumbs. If you do not enter the same page as the one you are working on, the Apply directory recordset option gets disabled. When trying to work with MX Includes however, a different page is actually used (the one that includes).

Solution

To use MX Breadcrumbs to create a directory, and then be able to use MX Includes to use the directory on another page, you have to perform the following actions:

  1. In MX Breadcrumbs user interface, enter the same name as the page you are working on (eg. directory.php). Check the Apply directory recordset option.
  2. After confirming the selected options, and the elements are on page, you must edit all links, and replace their target page (directory.php) with the actual page you need (eg. index.php).
  3. Save the page. Now the directory should work as expected.
