Technote Details :: Working with MX Kollection 2 and MX Kollection 3
Issue
We are releasing
MX Kollection 3, a radically improved version on MX Kollection 2. For those of you who have already upgraded to MX Kollection 3, but still want to use MX Kollection 2 or are working on web applications created with MX Kollection 2, this technical note explains how to:
Reason
Scenario 1: I already have MX Kollection 2 and I purchased MX Kollection 3.
You need to make the following changes in order to ensure compatibility between the two products:
Upgrade your version of MX Kollection 2.8.4 or older to MX Kollection 2.8.9. This is the only version from the 2 series which is compatible with the new MX Kollection 3. We do not support backward compatibility for versions older than 2.8.9.
Next, install MX Kollection 2.8.9. You don't need to uninstall your older version of MX Kollection. Macromedia Extension Manager will automatically replace the old version with the 2.8.9 version.
Warning: Please note that the installation of 2.8.9 might take between 5 and 45 minutes, depending on your current computer configuration. The Macromedia Extension Manager window might appear frozen. Please be patient while Macromedia Extension Manager replaces your older version of MX Kollection with the 2.8.9 version. Do not kill the installation process or restart your computer.
If the Macromedia Extension Manager asks you whether to overwrite any files, select Yes to All.

Install MX Kollection 3. If the Macromedia Extension Manager asks you whether to overwrite any files, select Yes to All.

After upgrading to MX Kollection 2.8.9. and installing MX Kollection 3, you should be able to see both products listed in the Macromedia Extension Manager window, as seen here:

When you open Macromedia Dreamweaver, you should see the server behaviors and commands corresponding to both MX Kollection 2 and MX Kollection 3:

Solution
Scenario 2: I have a website created with MX Kollection 2. Can I use MX Kollection 3 to improve it?
Yes, but you need to observe the following limitations:
You cannot automatically update the page code generated by MX Kollection 2 to code generated by MX Kollection 3.
You cannot apply commands or server behaviors from MX Kollection 3 to pages that contain server behaviors generated by MX Kollection 2.
Inside a site's root folder, the files and folders generated by MX Kollection 3 will not overwrite any of the existing files and folders generated by MX Kollection 2. Make sure you upload all folders and files to the remote/testing server. The files and folders belonging to MX Kollection 2 are the ones selected in the following image:

In a web application created with MX Kollection 2.8.9 or earlier, you can use commands and server behaviors from MX Kollection 3 on new pages (which do not contain any server behaviors from MX Kollection 2).
