Technote Details :: I cannot upgrade my extensions

I cannot install a new version of my extensions. Every time I attempt to install a newer version, the installation completes, but the old version is displayed in the Macromedia Extension Manager.

This happens because of a known bug in the Extension Manager. Whenever you try to install an extension which already has an older version installed and enabled, the installation fails. The Extension Manager will continue to display and use the older version of the extension.

There are two possible scenarios for this issue:

1. Scenario 1: you only have Dreamweaver 8 installed.
2. Scenario 2: you have both Dreamweaver 8 and an older Dreamweaver version (Dreamweaver MX 2004, for instance) installed. The upgrade will affect both versions.

Scenario 1: One Dreamweaver version is installed

In order to upgrade to the latest version of the extension, you must follow the next steps:

1. In the Extension Manager disable the extension to upgrade.
   
   
   
2. Next remove the extension. Select it in the list and press the Remove Extension button.
   
   
   
3. After the old version has been completely removed, double-click the new .mxp file to install it. After following the installation process, the new version will be displayed in the Extension Manager:
   
   
   

Scenario 2: You have multiple Dreamweaver versions installed.

If you have more than one version of Dreamweaver installed simultaneously on your computer, and you need to upgrade an extension for all versions of Dreamweaver, you must:

1. First disable the extension for all Dreamweaver versions. Proceed as shown above for each version.
2. Remove the extension after having disabled it from all Dreamweaver configurations.
3. Install the new version of the extension.
4. Enable the new version for each Dreamweaver version installed.
