Technote Details :: Advanced Recordset extension for compatibility with Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004

AdvRs stands for Advanced Recordset. It is a patch created and distributed by InterAKT Online as a Dreamweaver extension. AdvRs was designed to extend the default Dreamweaver platform, in order to offer users a new set of features that allowed them to create complex recordsets.

Attention: You do NOT need Advanced Recordset 3.2.2 if you use Macromedia Dreamweaver 8. The Advanced Recordset 3.2.2 extension overwrites several application files for Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004.

InterAKT Online recently released new product versions, which are fully compatible with both Dreamweaver MX/MX 2004 and Dreamweaver 8.

• MX Kart 3.2.0+

• MX RSS Reader-Writer 1.7.0

• MX CSV Import-Export 1.1.0

• MX Site Search 1.7.0

• PHAkt 3.2.0+

These product releases do not contain the AdvRs patch anymore. Previous releases of the aforementioned products had this patch integrated.

InterAKT Online shipped the AdvRs patch as a separate Dreamweaver extension, but we integrated it altogether in recent releases. However, we removed the patch from the latest versions of our products, in order to make them fully compatible with all versions of Dreamweaver (MX, MX 2004 and 8).

We took this decision for two reasons:

1. Macromedia decided to integrate the improvements brought by the AdvRs patch in their release of Dreamweaver 8. We see this as a recognition of our efforts to enhance the Dreamweaver platform and provide the web development community with better tools. We thank the Engineering team at Macromedia for their efforts to integrate this patch in Dreamweaver 8.

2. Previous versions of AdvRs had to overwrite several Dreamweaver files. While these changes did not affect Dreamweaver or our extensions in any way, other extension developers found it difficult to cope with. The changes sometime prevented third-party extensions from functioning properly. To show our support for the community of extensions developers, we decided to stop this practice. 

Will My Products Work?

Yes, the latest versions of extensions from InterAKT Online are fully compatible with Dreamweaver MX, MX 2004 and 8. However, because AdvRs was integrated in Dreamweaver 8, but not in Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004, users who haven't upgraded to Dreamweaver 8 still need this patch. That is why we released a new patch – Advanced Recordset 3.2.2 – which can be safely installed and uninstalled from your system.

Read below to find out what you need to do for your current setup.

Scenario 1 – I use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX/MX 2004 and earlier versions of InterAKT products. I want to upgrade my InterAKT products.

This applies to all users who have one or more of the following products:

• A version earlier than 3.2.0 of MX Kollection, ImpAKT, NeXTensio, MX Form Validation, MX File Upload, MX Send E-mail, MX Query Builder, MX Includes, MX User Login, MX Widgets, MX Looper, MX Kart, PHAkt

• A version earlier than 1.7.0 of MX RSS Reader-Writer, MX Site Search

• A version earlier than 1.1.0 of MX CSV Import-Export.

To correctly upgrade your InterAKT products follow these steps:

1. Uninstall the InterAKT extensions you intent to upgrade, using Macromedia Extension Manager.

2. Download the latest version of the InterAKT extensions.

3. Install the downloaded extensions using Macromedia Extension Manager.

You do not need Advanced Recordset 3.2.2.

Scenario 2 – I use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX/MX 2004. I haven't used or installed any InterAKT extensions before, but want to install one or more now.

This applies to all users who want to install one or more of the following products (either trial or registered):

• MX Kollection 3.2.0+, ImpAKT 3.2.0+, NeXTensio 3.2.0+, MX Form Validation 3.2.0+, MX File Upload 3.2.0+, MX Send E-mail 3.2.0+, MX Query Builder 3.2.0+, MX Includes 3.2.0+, MX User Login 3.2.0+, MX Widgets 3.2.0+, MX Looper 3.2.0+, MX Kart 3.2.0+, PHAkt 3.2.0+.

• MX RSS Reader-Writer 1.7.0, MX Site Search 1.7.0

• MX CSV Import-Export 1.1.0

To correctly install your InterAKT extensions, follow these steps:

1. Download the latest trial or commercial version of the InterAKT extensions you plan to install.

2. Install the extensions using Macromedia Extension Manager.

3. Open Dreamweaver. The following warning message will be displayed:
   
   
   

4. Go to the specified address (http://www.interaktonline.com/rs/) and download the Advanced Recordset extension. You can also find the Advanced Recordset extension in the downloaded package that contained the InterAKT extension(s), in the folder called “For Dreamweaver MX and MX 2004)”.

5. Install the Advanced Recordset using Macromedia Extension Manager.

6. Close and reopen Dreamweaver.

Scenario 3 – I use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX/MX2004 and the latest versions of InterAKT products. I want to install an earlier version of one or more InterAKT products.

This applies to all users who have one or more products from Category A and have installed or plan to install one or more products from Category B (other than the ones they have from Category A).

Category A:

• MX Kollection 3.2.0+, ImpAKT 3.2.0+, NeXTensio 3.2.0+, MX Form Validation 3.2.0+, MX File Upload 3.2.0+, MX Send E-mail 3.2.0+, MX Query Builder 3.2.0+, MX Includes 3.2.0+, MX User Login 3.2.0+, MX Widgets 3.2.0+, MX Looper 3.2.0+, MX Kart 3.2.0+, PHAkt 3.2.0+.

• MX RSS Reader-Writer 1.7.0, MX Site Search 1.7.0

• MX CSV Import-Export 1.1.0

Category B:

• A version earlier than 3.2.0 of MX Kollection, ImpAKT, NeXTensio, MX Form Validation, MX File Upload, MX Send E-mail, MX Query Builder, MX Includes, MX User Login, MX Widgets, MX Looper, MX Kart, PHAkt

• A version earlier than 1.7.0 of MX RSS Reader-Writer, MX Site Search

• A version earlier than 1.1.0 of MX CSV Import-Export.

To ensure a smooth functioning of all your products, please follow these steps:

1. After you install the product(s) from category B, open Dreamweaver. The following warning message will be displayed:
   
   
   

2. Go to the specified address (http://www.interaktonline.com/rs/) and download the Advanced Recordset extension.

3. Install the Advanced Recordset using Macromedia Extension Manager.

4. Close and reopen Dreamweaver.

Scenario 4 – I use Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and have installed one or more InterAKT products.

Everything should work fine as is. You do NOT need to install the Advanced Recordset extension.

Scenario 5 – I use Macromedia Dreamweaver 8 and have installed the Advanced Recordset extension.

If you have already installed the Advanced Recordset extension on Dreamweaver 8, there is nothing to worry about. Dreamweaver 8 and all your InterAKT extensions will function properly. However, you may notice that after you open and close Dreamweaver, the Advanced Recordset extension is automatically uninstalled from the Macromedia Extension Manager. This is because the patch is already integrated in Dreamweaver 8, and the Extension Manager will remove all redundant files.
