MMAdobe Forum Details :: The future for Interakt and ADDT looks bleak!
This thread was displayed: 0 times
Starting with 17th May 2007, Adobe Systems will stop offering support for any version of the discontinued InterAKT products. As a result, we will not answer to new support incidents starting with May 17th, 2007. Pending support incidents will still be followed in order to be closed. The product forums will remain open and be transformed in user-to-user forums. The general forums will be made read-only and not allow new posts or comments.
For more information about the affected products visit: www.interaktonline.com/Support/

I have had it on very good authority from another extension maker who are an Adobe partner that Adobe has no plans to go into the extension market!
This makes me think that ADDT is a token gesture, after all no new items have been added! the only reason behind this version is to make it CS3 compatible.
I know it may be a long way off but I can see ADDT not being upgraded for CS4 !
dwextend may be our only hope.
On a lighter note i do know that webassist are soon to release a revamped range of extensions which i must admit some are better that interakts, namely the ecart and the excellent database search extension

Hi,
>>
...that Adobe has no plans to go into the extension market

IMHO Adobe certainly wants & needs to leave enough room for external extension developers and wouldn´t want to reinvent the wheel -- but in how far does this affect ADDT, now that it´s an Adobe extension ?
>>

there probably hasn´t been enough time to add new features at all, considering the very narrow time-frame between the Interakt aquisition and the CS3 release -- making such a huge set of extensions compatible with a new DW version as such is quite a technical undertaking.
>>

do you really think that Adobe would release a commercial extension without intending to make it CS4 compatible later ?

Adobe aquired Interakt In September some 7 months before the release of DW CS3, not to mention I dare say Interakt were prob looking at new ideas for kollection v4. plus talks regarding Adobe buy out did not happen over night!

Yes look at the rest of the excellent Interakt range all dropped!

when you´re running a small company that´s just responsible for maintaining it´s own line of products, 7 months might be enough the get developments & decisions well coordinated, but when you´re becoming one part of a huge company and you´re not the only decision-maker any longer, 7 months is a) nothing and b) a very "fragmented" time-frame, and noone is to blame. And please keep the "Vista compatibility" issue in mind that´s been a quite a deal to struggle with for everyone involved and also affects other extension developers -- getting all this right doesn´t happen over night.

..which have been discontinued early enough and hence have not been "promised" to become a part of CS3 at all.
