Hi
I know next to nothing about Java and eclipse but have been studying JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.  I saw the JSEclipse editor on the Web and its features seemed to include just the ones I am looking for.  So I was anxious to install it.  I read the requirements and installed the Java runtime environment and eclipse.  I know the Java runtime environment works since a web site I know that uses it works.  I copied all unzipped eclipse plug-in stuff to my program folder in my Windows XP system.  And created a shortcut for my desktop which brings up the eclipse plug-in.  And I assume it is working though I do not know any Java since it comes up.  Well I guess following the installation instructions for JSEclipse might be easy for a Java expert but if you could bear with me and help me get it working I would appreciate it.

Reading the installation instructions I know I am following the first three steps correctly namely.

" 1. Download the latest version of the plugin from the InterAKT website.
2. Unzip the downloaded package to a folder of choice. Use any of the archiving    utilities available for your operating system.
   3. Close the Eclipse workbench, if it is running."

The fourth step sounds like it should be easy enough it says this.

" 4. Copy the plugins folder from the folder where the archive was unzipped in the root Eclipse folder. This will not overwrite any  existing plugins. It will simply copy the required files in the existing plugins folder."

Well as simple as that sounds it sounds to me like I am supposed to copy and paste a folder named plugins into a folder named plugins.  Well that did not make total sense to me so I have tried it two ways.  I have copied plugins into plugins and ones upon completion of all the steps it did not seem to work I also tried just the contents of plugins into the eclipse plugins folder.  And neither way appeared to work.  Well I also did the same for that step 5 of the installation copying features into features and also trying the contents of features into features folder in eclipse.  Well like I have said in the title of this post I know next to nothing about eclipse and Java so when they tell me how to check if it's working I just don't know. What I mean by this is if I am supposed to see a menu for JSEclipse inside eclipse is that across the top of eclipse.  I mean an other drop-down menu which says JSEclipse.  Or is this inside one of those drop-down menus or ready in eclipse.

I am not intending to earn a great deal about Java at this point but if you could just tell me enough too use and install JSEclipse as if it was a freestanding JavaScript editor that would really really be good.  I hope this is a practical request since the JSEclipse features really look good.

Very sincerely
Marc

Hello,

first of all you are not required to learn anything about Java in order to use Eclipse and JSEclipse.

I did not understand from you if you were able install and run Eclipse. If not please search on their site installation instruction and from now on I will assume that you have an Eclipse running. As an advice you should grab from Eclipse site the platform and not the SDK as it is lighter (does not have the tools for developing Java)

Now, with Eclipse running just go Help/Software Updates/Find and install... menu. Select "Search for new features to install" and press Next. Click  New remote site and enter Name: JSEclipse and URL: http://www.interaktonline.com and hit Finish.

After the process completes you will end up with JSEclipse installed in your Eclipse. Have fun.
