I have tried for over 2 hours to install the extensions Calendar, css menus, dynamic tables and nav pack. I continue to get the error message the DW8 is already running the help/MX_calendar.chm is being used by DW8 , please close it and retry. BUT DW8 isn't running and I so I can't close and retry. This happens with all the above install attempts. However I was able to install KTML, Collections3, Looper, RSS, Site Search and Table Sorter.  Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi, Ann.

I had this same problem when trying to install the extensions under Windows Vista.  If you're using that operating system, then the problem is that you're not logged in as a true Administrator (Vista differentiates between an "administrator" and an "Administrator"; you are locked out of the latter option by default).  It's a little ridiculous and misleading that it says that DW8 already has the extension installed.

If this is a Vista issue, then you have to turn on the option to be able to log in as a full Administrator.  To do this, follow the directions on this website (be sure to note that there are different directions for Vista Ultimate/Business and Vista Home/Home Premium).  Here's the link.

Hope that helps!

Hi Sterling,

Thank you for your prompt reply. I wasn't getting a permissions issue error but decided to try your suggestion anyway. Unfortunately I still get the same message that DW8 is using the .chm (help file) so close it and retry. But I can't close it because it isn't open. I keep thinking it is an order of install issue as I got this message for all extensions prior to installing the Kollection3_6_5. After I installed that I could install several of them but still can't install these 4: calendar, dynamic tables, css menus, and navigation Pack. Hopefully you or others may have an answer. I did forget to mention that, yes, I am in Vista (Home Premium) and using DW8. Thanks to you and all who might be able to help.

Mine didn't say it was a permission problem, either.  It said exactly what yours said specifically about the chm files not being able to install due to it already being in use by Dreamweaver.

There are other posts about this same issue here, for example (it's under MX Charts, but it refers to MX Kollection help, which is the chm file you're having problems with) which give the same solution I gave, but with less detail.

I'm sorry to press the point, but this is important because many others installing Vista will have the same problem, and Interakt is just officially saying that they don't support Vista so you won't get a clear answer from them.  Are you sure you followed the directions completely?  Were you able to logout and then log back in as "Administrator" (note that this is not a name you created, but this is the one and only official system Administrator that Vista Home Premium blocks by default)?  Note that when you do this, you'll have to transfer your desktop files, etc, to the new "Administrator" user.  But I can almost promise you that when you do unlock Administrator and login as such that you'll be able to install your extensions as needed.

Unfortunately, if you really follow this through and it still doesn't work, I think you're on your own!  Good luck!!
