Hi,

I am trying to save excel as csv, but after I open and see what's saved, I see the same structure as in excel, i.e. data is rows and colomns (same as in excel).

How to save it as csv so that I get comma separators and quotes around data?

I even tried to make excel of data in tutorial and save as csv, got the same problem. So, what I am missing? How to save as csv correctly?

Thanks

Hello,

In order to save an Excel sheet as CSV file simply select the Save As option from the menu and select the CSV(comma delimited) format.

To test the CSV file open it with Notepad or another text editor, and not Excel. Excel will recognize the CSV format and display the file with proper formatting - e.g. rows and columns.

Regards,
Cristian

I edited a CSV file in Excel and after saving it (as CSV) it has a different structure and is not compatible with the first. For example , the values are between 2 pairs of " instead of one pair. How can I converse it into a working CSV? I tried open it with uniCSVed or CSVed but it gives me error, or says the first row is empty, or something. By the way, is a 7MB file.

Any suggestion?

Hi,

The CSV file is no longer recognised by the page because the enclosing has bveen changed. What you can do is create another page using MX CSV Import-Export set to use the double " as enclosing separators and import the data into a temporary table. Then use a regular export to recreate the csv file with the single " signs.

Cristian

I have the same problem. I can save excel file to csv and set option to use double quotes as text qualifier. When I open in notepad, there's no double quotes around text. Someone from another forum wrote that excel does not force double quotes unless there's a comma in the text. Do you know how I can force double quotes around text? I need to solve this problem urgetly. Thanks.

Hi Yvonna,

I believe you can enforce this when saving as CSV by setting the options. You should check out Excel's help for this information though.

Cristian
