MX Kollection Forum :: WebAssist Super Suite vs Interakt/ADDT

This thread was displayed: 0 times

Starting with 17th May 2007, Adobe Systems will stop offering support for any version of the discontinued InterAKT products. As a result, we will not answer to new support incidents starting with May 17th, 2007. Pending support incidents will still be followed in order to be closed. The product forums will remain open and be transformed in user-to-user forums. The general forums will be made read-only and not allow new posts or comments.

For more information about the affected products visit: www.interaktonline.com/Support/

Can anyone offer any advice on the WebAssist Super Suite and how it compares to MX Kollection or more importantly ADDT?  Looks like it can do some similar things, but also includes quite a few unique extensions.

Thats a good question.
I am looking at the same but with having to spend $900 without being able to evaluate the extensions it is a tough decision.

ADDT is certainly not the route I am going to follow.  Simply because of the lack of support.

I see that WebAssist has picked up on some of the things Interakt had, which is good, but I still feel like I was left at the altar when Interakt was absorbed into Adobe. I will continue to use their products as long as I possibly can, but I really miss the top notch support we used to have on this site. Saved my butt more than once.

I own both products and am disappointed in the WebAssist Suite.  MXKollections is much more sophisticated in what it allows you to do.  For example, the user Registration Wizard in InterAKT's products does form validation, password encryption and email validation all in one group.  It takes about 5 minutes to get a page setup.

To do the same thing in WebAssist requires three different modules, about an hour of time, two support tickets and then it still won't work without you spending time on the phone with one of their higher level tech people.

But.. You can talk to them.  I could never get anyone on the phone at InterAkt.

Also, I am still using DW8 because I don't want to lose the good features of MXKollections and ADDT is not the same.

The one product that WebAssist has that's better than InterAkts is the Universal Email program.

I agree with John Langlois' comments but would add that another excellent WebAssist extension is the Database Search - now part of the latest version of SiteAssist I think. I had a brief look at SiteAssist but generally it seemed very basic compared to Kollection's backend creation facilties (eg NexTensio lists). Features such as client and server validation are very well integrated in Kollection - not in SiteAssist. Once you get used to interface persistence/caching in Kollection, you wouldn't want to be without it. (I haven't used the latest version of SiteAssist, so it's possible there are new features which bring it closer to Kollection.)

I think SiteAssist is probably several years behind what was the 'forthcoming' new Kollection of which there was a preview on this site. I think this is the saddest thing about Adobe's takeover of Interakt - the terrible waste of what looked like being a wonderful piece of software.

I am another to agree with you guys. I have several WebAssist products, including search and e-cart, but I like the old Interakt stuff much better. I am really sad about the whole Adobe acquisition, it IS a waste of wonderful software that allowed us to do things we probably never would have been able to do on our own. I would like to think that they would incorporate the features of products like Kollection into future releases of Dreamweaver, but that seems unlikely to happen (what are those old Interakt guys working on at Adobe? FlashPaper? I had read about what they were doing a while ago, and it was something that I scratched my head at...why arent they working on Dreamweaver and its related components?)

What John Langlois is pointing out is what is important for me.  How much time is it going to take to implement / code something?

Developing in php is not an issue for me.  I can do without the DW extensions.  But what makes the difference between being a successful freelancer is the 5 minutes to code a secure login page with Kollection compared to the 8 man-hours needed to code and debug this manually.

Rapid, Secure development!!!

By Secure I mean that none of my sites has been hacked yet using Kollection scripts.

I guess I am stuck with "yea old DW" till something better comes up or Adobe includes the usable stuff in a new release.
